Kickin’ It Clean Holiday Style

A few weeks ago,  I asked my Whole Health Designs Face Book:  What is your favorite holiday food?

All of these remind me of growing up in Pittsburgh, especially that cranberry sauce!

Even Kevin and the kids LOVE that jellied canned cranberry sauce .  Kate said that she loves going to Mia and Poppy’s house just to eat that.

Even though your favorite might be the canned Ocean Spray Jellied Cranberry Sauce, here’s a fun way to get your cranberry fix without all the processed crap.

By the way, the canned version ingredients include cranberries, high fructose corn syrup, water and corn syrup. What? High Fructose Corn Syrup! I thought that was old school and companies are changing the name to hide it. I guess Ocean Spray is putting it all out there.

Anyhoo, try making this delightful, zingy holiday sauce:

 

Tangy Cranberry Sauce

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups of fresh cranberries

1 apple (a sweeter one will be best), peeled, cored, and chopped

1 small orange, peeled and chopped

1/2 Tbsp. of raw honey

1/4 tsp. sea salt

 

Directions:   Pulse all ingredients in a food processor until combined but a little chunky.

Serves 4-6 (for a big party double the ingredients)

I know, I know.  It’s not the jellied kind, but it is heaven in your mouth and a great compliment to the main meal and other side dishes.

Side note:  After making a test run last night, Kate couldn’t stop eating the sauce.  Maybe she will give up Ocean Spray? Woot!

That sounds really good. I have never tried cranberry sauce before because, um, it’s still in the shape of a can. Does not look appealing. But this sounds really good! I’m gonna do it!

    Jodi, I grew up with that canned stuff! After awhile, it looked just not good! You will seriously like this…Kate couldn’t stop eating it last night and even said she would give up the canned cranberries. Now, we will see! Report back and let me know if you like this twist. 🙂

Sounds fun. I have one that I love that has very similar ingredients but you boil down the cranberries with the sugar, orange and a cinnamon stick. It’s also seriously delicious. Can’t wait to try this no-cook version.

Oh bummer! I just got ready to make this only to realize I had no apple. Grrrr…off to the store we go.
