3 Best Fat Burning Foods

Part II of “Photoshop That Armpit Fat, Please!”

Did you catch last week’s post on what to do about the fat question?

If not, go to it and come back here:  Three Ways to Lose Armpit, Back and Belly Fat .

So you got your mindset (letting go) and workouts ready.

Now it’s time for food. You can do all the push ups in the world, but if you are snacking on salt and vinegar potato chips at work or eating the after-dinner icecream, then that stubborn fat we talked about last week won’t budge.

Even if you eat pretty clean, you really need to have the exercise and mindset pieces in place. So let’s look at this holistically.

Here are the  best fat burning foods you need to be putting into your body:

1. Hot peppers:  Capsaicin, the compound that gives chili peppers their kick, heats up your body, which makes you melt additional fluff. You can get it by eating raw, cooked, dried, or powdered peppers.

Ole Black Bean Salad

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado, peeled, pitted, and mashed
¼ cup chopped cilantro
1 Tbsp. lime juice
1 15 oz. can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 bunch romaine lettuce (1 cup), chopped
½ cup grape tomatoes, halved
1 hot chili pepper, seeded and chopped
¼ cup pumpkin seeds

Directions:
In a large bowl, mix avocado, cilantro, and lime juice until combined. Add beans, lettuce, tomatoes, pepper, and pumpkin seeds. Toss and serve. Serves 1-2.

2.  Grapefruit:  A flavonoid found in grapefruit genetically reprograms  the liver to burn excess fat from food, rather than storing it. And the compound, called naringenin, corrects a number of the metabolic irregularities increasingly held responsible for obesity, heart disease and diabetes.

Minty Grapefruit Juice

Juice up these ingredients:  2 medium sized grapefruit, pitted and peeled + handful of mint leaves (1 Tbsp).  Makes approximately 16 oz.

*If this juice is too sweet, dilute with 2 ounces of filtered water.

3. Lentils:  Lentils are rich in protein and loaded with soluble fiber, which helps balance blood cholesterol levels, and insoluble fiber to keep you feeling full.  That way your metabolism stays boosted and more fat is burned instead of stored. High fiber foods slow down the digestion of other foods and glucose, which keeps your blood sugar levels more stable. Although fiber cannot be digested, it gives you a full, satisfying feeling, which helps you eat less calories.

Lentil Salad

Ingredients:

½ cup dry red lentils
½ cup carrots, diced
¼ cup red onion, diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
2 cups of vegetable broth
½ cup celery, diced
Sea salt and pepper

1-2 cups mixed greens

Directions:

In a pan, combine lentils, carrots, onion, and garlic. Add vegetable broth and bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 20 minutes. Drain lentils and vegetables. Add lemon juice, celery and a dash of salt and pepper.

Serve over mixed greens.

Serves 1-2.

Hey Lisa – I HATE tomatoes… what do you suggest subbing in #1?

    Lisa Consiglio Ryan

Awww, such a shame when tomato season is coming up. But we can sub with red peppers or sun dried tomatoes (or not a fan of them either?). Let me know how it turns out!

Christine

Hi Lisa – These all sound wonderful! I’m gonna try all of them. I still have your recipes from Spring Renewal Detox in my regular meal rotation. Thank you!

I’m really digging these tips, Lisa. I’ll try those recipes even though I don’t have to lose any armpit fat (yet), but they sound scrumptious. 🙂

Glad you like the tips and the recipes are for everyone, armpits and all.:) I’m really a fan of that juice…light and has a bite! Hugs!

Try them! Not just for armpits! 🙂 My favorite is the juice; light, tangy and yum. Hugs!
