Last Wednesday, I had a super lunch date at the fabulous Great Sage in Clarksville, MD. My dear friend Fran, founder of Grounded for Life Yoga, mentioned that I had to try this fantastic all-vegan, organic restaurant. (Here is a pic of us before digging into our meals).
So we took a short trip (about 30 minutes from Annapolis) on a rainy afternoon to the Great Sage. AND let me tell you, I had the absolute BEST dining experience EVER. First, the atmosphere was chic but comfortable. We were made to feel right at home with a welcome from Justin, our waiter (who mentioned that a cookbook from the chef is in the works!). Since it was Gluten-Free Wednesday, Fran was in heaven since she is a gluten-free girl. She gave me a bite of her grilled Reuben made of marinated and baked spiced tempeh, house-made Russian dressing, sauerkraut and Daiya ‘cheese’ on toasted rye bread. Mouthwatering! AND my lunch was TO DIE FOR! Take a look below at the hearty lasagna with the mushrooms, spinach, and artichokes.
Besides being a restaurant, the Great Sage hosts Local Music Night on Thursdays, happy hours, and benefits (such as the Benefit for the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine). Fran just loves the brunch which will be my next stop. You can choose from tofu quiche to cinnamon rolls and lots of organic cocktails.
I was so excited to meet Katie Smallwood, the marketing director at Great Sage, during my visit. She mentioned to look for their blog coming soon. You can also become a fan (or “like”) Great Sage on Facebook in order to get the scoop on all the happenings and specials. I know that I will be seeing her often since I will be a frequent diner for sure.
As a vegetarian who is raw-curious and on the verge of veganism, this experience was out of this world.
