10 Ways to Bring Back the Sexy

This is a guest post by Dr. Tania, a dear friend of mine, fellow Iron Girl triathlete (I think we did at least 3 of them together!), and blogger (who really writes  good, honest shit…just love that).  Since we are Clean + Sexy over here at Whole Health Designs, our guest has a few tips and insights on how to keep that sexy going even after kids. And of course, JT has to be involved with anything dealing with sexy!

Justin Timberlake may not be the man of my fantasies, but his music certainly can get me in the mood to live a fantasy of my own.

Oh yeah, ladies, I’m bringing sexy back. I had two kids in two years, and truth be told, I wasn’t terribly sexy before that. Childbirth empowered me to embrace my inner warrior, but left me saggy and baggy, which was decidedly not sexy. Nor were my chronic fatigue, all-day bed-head and elastic-waist pants.

Sound familiar?

If so, keep reading because I can SO relate!

Here’s what you can do to bring a little sexy back into your life…

Commit to just one month of daily exercise, a clean diet and regular sex.

And if you’re already practicing 1 or 2 of these, lucky you. I know –I really know – that sometimes you have to fake it before you feel it. Who can think of sex when you have a sink full of dirty dishes and piles of dirty laundry??? Do it anyway.

Moving + great nourishment = BOINGGGGG….more sex!

And the more sex you have, the more you want. Even if it’s with yourself.

I get it, truly I do. We’re all tired, pretty much all the time. Kids, work, obligations – all these things can suck you dry. You can either surrender to it and bemoan your existence or use it to launch you into better choices.

Cue the better choices….

Some tips for cleaner eating:

    • The thought of eating clean shouldn’t freak you out. Shop the perimeter of the grocery store for plenty of fresh produce, organic if at all possible.

    • Don’t eat anything that has a color, number or chemical name in the ingredients.

    • Buy grass fed meats and wild fish.

    • Snack on raw nuts and fruit.

  • My favorite smoothie? Almond milk, banana, cashew butter – yum!

And for working exercise into your day:

    • Try different classes in your community or gym. I would have never taken yoga –which I now LOVE – if I wasn’t sidelined from running due to an injury.

    • Remember it all adds up: take the stairs, park far away from the mall, do crunches during commercials and chase the kids around the house.

    • Take a computer or desk break every hour and do a lap around the office or house.

    • Sign up for your local running store’s “Couch to 5K” program.

  • Put on your workout clothes first thing in the morning and start moving before you can talk yourself out of it!

Set yourself up for success. If I didn’t have my workout clothes clean and at the ready each night, you can be sure I’d crawl back in bed after my girls leave for school at zero-dark-thirty each morning. And thanks to my friend and yours, Lisa Consiglio Ryan, I now have my smoothie prepped in the blender, so all I have to do is press a button and throw down my healthy breakfast on the way to the gym.

Trust me on this one.

Before you know it, there will be a spring in your step and a glow to your skin. People will wonder what you’ve been up to. Let them wonder. And when you see another girl on the street that looks just like you, give her a wink and smile, and she will know that you, too, have gotten your sexy back.

 What do you say?

Dr. T. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Tania Howard decided to become a chiropractor at the age of 15, when she experienced a complete metamorphosis in her health after seeking chiropractic care for an injury. She completed her undergraduate work at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, and her doctorate at Life Chiropractic College in Atlanta, Georgia. In private practice for over 20 years, she is the founder of Broadneck Family Chiropractic, where she practices with two amazing partners who make it possible for her to take her message ‘on the road’ with her saucy lifestyle blog.

BK (“Before Kids”), Hollywood came calling and she enjoyed providing chiropractic health care on movie sets (Tuck Everlasting, Ladder 49, The Replacements, and many others) and behind the scenes at live shows like David Copperfield. She’s been profiled in Washington Post Magazine and other trade and regional publications.

A chiropractic lifestyle has helped her to stay fit and healthy enough to become a triathlete and marathoner at the age of 40 (though she admits to being a yoga convert).  She lives in Annapolis with her three true loves, her husband Braden and daughters Francesca and Julia.

Thank you for sharing Dr. Tania! So often I feel that if I have one more person to take care of I’m going to screem! And yet, what I’ve taken away from reading your article is the person I really need to take care of is me. My intention for 2014 is balance. I have changed to a vegan diet, committed to 6 days (already seeing changes, woohoo!) of exercise, 3x – 4x a week for creative time, and made a plan to make space for new possibilties by de-cluttering my life.
P.S. I also went and did a bit of shopping for some pretty under things! 😉

Hey Justine – Well good for you, love! You’ve committed to some BIG changes – be gentle with yourself. If (when!) you slip up, because we all do, give yourself the same consideration that you would a kid, spouse or co-worker – and then get back on that horse, girl! Thanks for writing! xoxo

Justine, I LOVE your word…balance and I can see, even feel, that ease from you. AND we all need pretty stuff to wear, always! Love you, darling.
