We are now on Week 3! Our dark leafy greens are the bomb!
Here’s a super “keep your greens fresh” tip from Billie:
“I buy pre-cut, pre-washed greens (like Kale, Collard Greens and Spinach) and freeze the bags. When I make my batch of smoothies in the morning I grab 2-3 handfuls of the greens and throw them in the blender. I also use frozen fruit and throw a few handfuls in with the greens. I buy frozen peaches, mango, strawberries and mixed berries. I have peeled bananas in the freezer at all times to add sweetness to my smoothies. I find that using frozen greens and fruit not only reduces waste because they don’t go bad, but makes it a no brainer to whip up a batch of smoothies for the day.”
Today’s smoothie is the Power Up.
The green of choice is Swiss chard. Swiss chard is a power house of phytonutrients (plant-based essential nutrients to keep you alive… oh yes!) with tons of benefits. The biggest benefit is regulating blood sugar and curbing cravings.
So drink this one up for energy as well as managing the sweet tooth.
