We are starting our 2nd smoothie week together, and I’m so stoked about what I have planned for you. I added a few boosts of super foods to most of the recipes this week.
You can either try the new foods or pick just one.
Here’s a quickie list:
• Hemp seeds: A great source of protein and omega-3’s; can be found at natural food stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joes) and online. Brands to get: Nativas Naturals and Bob’s Red Mill.
• Chia Seeds: Another great source of omega-3’s and super for making smoothies smooth and silky; can be found at natural food stores (Whole Foods, Trader Joes) and online.
• Gogi berries: The brand to get is Nativas Naturals. Did you know? Gogi berries are the most nutrient-dense fruit on Earth? Yep, it’s true. Unique among fruits because they contain all essential amino acids, goji berries also have the highest concentration of protein of any fruit. They are also loaded with vitamin C and have 15 times the amount of iron found in spinach, as well as calcium, zinc, selenium and many other important trace minerals. My hubby, Kevin, who is not the best fruit and veggie eater (I know, I’m working on him!) eats these like candy.
• Cacao nibs: Raw, unprocessed chocolate… yum! It’ s an amazing antioxidant plus packed with magnesium and iron. I like Nativas Naturals brand for these also. I throw the nibs on my oatmeal, baked goods and in smoothies, obvi.
Today’s feature smoothie is Silky Berry Smoothie.
The avocado makes it smooth and the mixed berries provide necessary Vitamin C during the cold and flu season. Instead of the coconut flakes, you can throw on the cacao nibs for the boost today. Let’s make it!
Silky Berry Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 cup spinach
2 cups coconut milk
½ avocado, peeled and pitted
½ cup mixed berries (frozen)
1Tbsp. flaxseeds
Boost: 1 Tbsp. coconut flakes
